In 2003 two community transport schemes were supported through funding received from the Rural Transport Initiative. Mainstream funding of euro19600 enabled the two schemes, in Tourmakeady and Mayo Abbey, to provide services to their communities, especially the more elderly, who otherwise had no access to public transport. |
|
Voluntary community support has been instrumental in the provision of a weekly service between Tourmakeady and Castlebar and in Mayo Abbey an equally dedicated committee has ensured the provision of services to Claremorris & Castlebar, on a weekly basis, for residents of Mayo Abbey parish.

The Dept. of Social & Family Affairs supplemented mainstream funding in October 2003 with a grant of euro3750, to enable passengers with a Free Travel Pass to travel without charge on these services. The Company was also able to support two pilot schemes in Claremorris and on Clare Island . These schemes were able to operate for a limited period only, due to the limited funding available. |
For 2004, mainstream funding is euro10,446, to be allocated to the two existing community schemes, to enable their services to continue.
